Media focuses on ‘bailed’ REVA

 Nov 17, 2005

Solar Shop’s all-electric vehicle, the Indian-made REVA, has drawn further media attention following its release from Australian Customs in Melbourne on Nov 12. The vehicle will soon be safety tested in Adelaide by the Department of Transport and Regional Services to determine whether it complies with Australian safety standards.

Australia’s top-rating television current affairs show, Today Tonight, and Adelaide’s Sunday Mail were on hand at Victoria Park Race Course today to interview Federal Senator Christine Milne from the Australian Greens (Tasmania) and record her strong support for an early release of the REVA onto Australian roads. Senator Milne later test-drove the REVA around the old Formula One racetrack and gave it further endorsement and offered to introduce a Private Member’s Bill into the Parliament to help get the vehicle approved for public use as soon as possible.

Reporters Kevin Naughton from Adelaide’s Sunday Mail and Vassil Malandriz from Today Tonight also test-drove the REVA, both expressing their admiration for its performance. Kevin Naughton said it was better than a Mini Minor he once owned.

Meanwhile, Solar Shop has offered to take the REVA to Melbourne on Nov 29 in order for members of the Australian Motor Vehicle Registration Board to conduct a ‘hands-on’ examination of the vehicle when they deliberate its future in Australia.
